Japanese Abuse Survivor Shares Heartbreaking Photos of Life at 37 Pounds
A Japanese Twitter user who goes by 淡々と白菜, which translates to “Wild Cabbage” in English, shared a horrible experience that she had gone through 10 years ago at the hands of her grandfather.
The woman, who is reportedly from Kyoto, Japan, survived many years of domestic abuse, ranging from being deprived of food to physical abuse inflicted by her grandfather, according to the translation from Daily Mail.
In her Twitter post, Wild Cabbage went on to details about how she was “forbidden to eat” while in the care of her grandfather, and that she would often get beat up whenever she was found eating. He would force the food out of her mouth, and sometimes he would kick her in the belly whenever he caught her secretly eating.
The traumatic physical abuse would then make her throw the food up. As a result of this continuous torture, she lost a near-fatal amount of weight. In one of her pictures, she showed that, at the time, she only weighed 16.8 kilograms (37 pounds).
She was shockingly thin, and her bones – especially her hipbones – were protruding immensely. In fact, after she was rescued, medical experts told her that she was actually “ten minutes away from death.”
Other netizens were not entirely convinced by what Wild Cabbage claimed in her social media post. Some challenged the user to prove the legitimacy of her claims, to which she did. The woman, who is believed to be now in her 20s, shared other pictures that show bruises on her chest and neck.
Wild Cabbage has since recovered from her abuse and is now living a normal life after being rescued 10 years ago. She encourages anyone who had gone through or going through similar abuse – or even suffering from an eating disorder – to speak up and “ask for help before it’s too late.”
