Filipino American Security Guard Shot Dead in SF, Family Launches GoFundMe
San Francisco police arrested a suspect responsible for the killing of 61-year-old Filipino security guard Rolando Romero.
The suspect, identified as San Francisco resident Cardell Mason Coleman, was arrested on Tuesday at around 12:48 a.m. near the Bayview housing project at Arelious Walker Drive and Fitzgerald Avenue where the deadly shooting happened, according to SF Examiner.

The 24-year-old suspect was being held without bail at the San Francisco County Jail for homicide.
On Monday at 5:30 a.m., the San Francisco Police Department responded to reports of shooting in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately transported him to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died.
The victim’s co-worker said that Romero was in the last hour of his shift as he was going around the construction project when the shooting happened, as reported by ABC7 News.
“He stayed because he wants to support the family and at the same time he doesn’t care whatever hardship he encounters,” the victim’s sister, Evangeline Romero Cruz, said.
She also added that Romero is a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who worked in the United States to provide for his family in the Philippines.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Romero’s family bring his body back to the Philippines. The crowdfunding campaign has raised more than $2,000 of its $10,000 goal so far.
