The 'Pose' finale gave a happily ever after for those who rarely get a chance to live a fairy tale
In fairy tales, kindness always wins. The good are rewarded, the wicked are justly punished, and the lessons learned by all affirm human values like selflessness and personal growth.
There are hundreds of stories that follow this formula, but very few of them stray from telling them through the lens of straight, white, cisgender, and heterosexual norms, which is why the fairy tale ending of Pose Season 1 felt so profound even as it hit every hackneyed note of a tale as old as time.
Every character on Pose was tested in the finale, and in true fairy tale fashion they emerged from their trials better than they were before. Elektra learned the value of family and forgiveness when her nemesis Blanca rescued her from homelessness, Pray Tell conquered his fear of love by disclosing his HIV status to an understanding potential lover, Angel asserted her worth when she turned a truly useless Stan away for good, Damon made a choice that confirmed his trust in both his boyfriend and his mother’s plans for him, and Blanca’s season-long efforts to do right by her children paid off when she walked away with the Mother of the Year award.
