Multiple Robberies Targeting Chinese Food Delivery Workers Reported in August, NYPD Reveals
Four separate attacks against Chinese food restaurant delivery workers have reportedly been recorded in New York just in August alone.
According to the NYPD, the first three incidents happened in the Bronx, while the most recent was in Manhattan, Gothamist reports.
In a bid to help identify the suspects, the police department released a video of those involved in the assault and robbery of the restaurant workers. Police have described the suspects as aged between 16-19 years old.
The first incident happened at 2770 Briggs Avenue on Aug. 7. It was reported that someone placed an order from a local restaurant and requested that it be delivered to address. The 39-year-old delivery man was assaulted by three unidentified individuals when he arrived at around 8:30 p.m.
The suspects fled on foot southbound on Briggs Avenue after robbing the victim of the food and his wallet containing $200 in cash. The victim sustained injuries including a laceration on his mouth and bruising on his face and head.
A similar incident happened on Aug. 11, with the delivery person lured with another order to be delivered on 275 East Gun Hill Road.
At 11:20 p.m., the 28-year-old deliveryman arrived and similarly attacked and robbed, this time by the two individuals, who approached him from behind and threw him down to the ground.
After robbing the victim of his cell phone and $100 in cash, the criminals immediately fled the location.
The next day, another order was placed at a local restaurant to be delivered at 2546 Grand Avenue. Two criminals were waiting at the location when the 32-year-old deliveryman arrived at around 10:20 p.m.
The victim, who was assaulted before being robbed of his cell phone and $80 in cash, was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital due to his injuries. The suspects fled on foot eastbound on West 192 Street.
The latest attack was on Aug. 17, when an unknown individual placed a food delivery order and requested delivery at 561 West 189 Street. At around midnight, three individuals dragged their 45-year-old victim inside the building where they assaulted him and robbed him of his cell phone, $20 in cash and the food.
Footage of the last incident captured the suspects dragging the delivery worker to the floor.
