BTS Makes History as First K-Pop Group to Address the UN With ‘Love Myself’ Campaign
Members of K-pop boy band BTS were at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday to talk about their “Love Myself” campaign in support of UNICEF’s youth initiative, “Generation Unlimited.”
The UNICEF partnership will offer the best education, training, and employment to millions of youth around the globe by 2030, Billboard reported.
Presenting a speech at the 73rd General Assembly, Kim Nam-joon, also known by his stage name RM, said, “BTS has become artists performing in those huge stadiums and selling millions of albums, but I am still an ordinary 24-year-old guy. Maybe I made mistakes yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me, and today I am who I am with all of my faults and mistakes.”
BTS, the first K-pop group to address the UN, encouraged young people to use their voice to speak on world issues.
“Let’s all take one more step. We have learned to love ourselves, so I urge you to speak yourself,” RM said. “No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color or gender identity, speak yourself, find your name and find your voice by speaking yourself.”

people might think i’m stupid for liking a kpop group this much, but never in my life someone spoke the words i’ve been trying to say, no one ever heard what i’ve wanted to say. no one ever taught me to love myself the way they did. i’m proud to stan bts #BTSxUnitedNations pic.twitter.com/DvvrevkRlo

-5 years ago, society was putting @BTS_twt in a box trying to define who they should be
-5 years later, they become Global Ambassadors of Youth, giving a powerful speech to advocate for young people around the world at the UNGA in front of the First Lady

You are more than just artists who perform songs for us. You are the voice, role model and inspiration of people out there who are afraid to speak for themselves. We are forever proud of you.#BTSxUnitedNations pic.twitter.com/niG4HN4Kb6
