Boy Who Beat Cancer Gets Separated from the Class, Teacher Says He is Contagious
An 11-year-old cancer survivor from Huai’an, China, was discriminated against by his teacher after the boy was made to sit in the back of the class under the belief that he is contagious.
The boy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that originates in the lymphatic system. He was pronounced cancer-free after rounds of chemotherapy, according to Beijing News as translated by Shanghaiist.
After officially beating cancer, the boy’s family had enrolled him into a new school in the county. One day, his father, only identified by the surname Zhou, discovered his son’s humiliation in class when he returned home without his midterm grades.
He later confessed to his father that his teacher refused to allow him to take the midterm test, declaring that he is “contagious” and forcing him to sit alone in the back of the class.
The principal of the school has initiated an investigation regarding the allegations of discrimination that the boy faced.
