HIV-Infected Army Sergeant in Thailand Admits to Raping Over 70 Teenage Boys
Thai police apprehended an HIV-positive, high-ranking soldier on Wednesday for allegedly raping an estimated 75 teenage boys.
Army sergeant major Jakkrit Khomsing is accused of luring his victims, age 13-18, using a false profile on the gay dating app “Blued,” reports Coconuts Media.
According to Technology Crime Task Force deputy head Surachate Hakparn, the 43-year-old suspect has been detained at a house in Nam Phong district, Khon Kaen province.
Jakkrit, who has since been stripped of his military rank, is facing six charges, including the rape and molestation of underage children.
Surachate revealed at a press conference on Thursday that Jakkrit used a profile with photos of a very attractive man to manipulate the victims into sending him lewd photos of themselves during chats on the dating app and convince them to meet up later.
He would then use the compromising photos to blackmail them into having sex with him.
“We have evidence that he raped the boys, about 75 of them… and he confessed,” Surachate was quoted as saying.
So far, the police have identified the names and addresses of 28 of the 75 alleged victims.
Surachate explained that investigations into the other victims could take more time since the majority of the victims were underage.
The victims are now being provided with HIV testing and counseling services by the local government.
Authorities began investigating Jakkrit after a victim contacted the technology crime task force unit on Facebook.
Based on the findings, he had been victimizing the teenagers for four years, starting back when he was stationed in Bangkok. Jakkrit was also found to be infected with the HIV virus in 2009 but only received treatment in 2014 for an eight-month period.
