A Teacher Attacked Students in Front of a Class and No One Moved an Inch While it Was Happening
A middle school teacher in southern China has been suspended after assaulting two male students in front of the class.
The incident occurred during an evening self-study session at Xuanwei No. 9 Middle School in Yunnan province on April 13, Beijing Time reported.
According to The Paper, the male teacher punished the students for eating and talking during the period.
In surveillance footage, he is seen summoning the students in front of the class.
He proceeds to slap one of the students, pulls his hair and kicks him in the torso.
The teacher then shifts his attention to the other, slapping and kicking him to the opposite side of the room.
The entire class appears to remain silent throughout the teacher’s rage episode.
After discovering the incident, the school administration asked the teacher to bring the students to the hospital for medical examination. They then contacted the students’ parents to apologize for the incident, Yunnan Net reported.
On Monday, the Xuanwei Education and Sports Bureau convened to discuss an appropriate punishment for the teacher. Officials decided to suspend him as the investigation continues.
The school has since vowed to provide further training to its teaching staff to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The incident, which appears to be the latest in China’s history of corporal punishment, has drawn mixed reactions on Weibo:
“Remember, you are a teacher, not a boss.”
“This kind of person must clear the ranks of teachers.”
“This is a common phenomenon. I have been beaten like this before.”
“I personally think that corporal punishment is okay, but this teacher went a little too far.”
“Back in junior high school, a teacher kicked me from the podium to the last row in class. I still remember his face.”
