Customers need not worry about their Huawei devices

There’s been a lot of news regarding Huawei and the US Government over the last few days and just like any xxx story, it comes with a fair amount of misinformation and miscommunication. Huawei has risen to being the second largest phone maker in the world which is also the spot it enjoys in the Middle East currently.

After intensive research, we have collected statements available to the public online and put together a quick guide on some of the concerns and questions customers have regarding their Huawei phones.

Your phone will not stop working

There has been a lot of confusion amongst owners of Huawei phones that their phones will stop working. That is simply not true. Your phone will continue to operate just like it normally does like any other phone. It will also continue to be serviced by Huawei. In a public statement, the company mentioned:

"Huawei will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.”

Your phone will not receive any updates

Again, this is not true. All phones that have been released by Huawei will continue to get security updates for Android as well as app updates from the Google Play Store. Here is Google’s statement issued to TechRadar:

“We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications. For users of our services, Google Play and the security protections from Google Play Protect will continue to function on existing Huawei devices,” a spokesperson told us.

As the statement above suggests, current devices from Huawei will continue to get security updates and access to the Play Store for the foreseeable future, as Google has promised not to leave those out in the cold.

People are selling off their Huawei phones

People buy and sell phones- that’s nothing new and how the market operates. But has there been a mass sell-off of Huawei devices leading prices to crash? Data from dubizzle, the largest second hand market place in the UAE does not suggest that. Looking at the first three pages of their mobile phones for sale section, the majority of the phones being sold are either Apple or Samsung brand. This clearly suggests that people are holding on to their Huawei phones which they should.

Huawei is a massive company and one of the biggest Android partners

When you’re buying a Huawei product, you’re buying a product from one of the largest Android partners. Huawei will continue to provide support for all it’s phones for the lifetime of that phone.

It’s also worth noting that this announcement hasn’t stopped Huawei from launching new phones. The Honor 20 was recently launched globally while a new Y series phone from Huawei is also all set for a release. This means that Huawei is confident in its products and willing to support the end-user whatever the outcome of the current issue at hand be.
