Pay attention to the game at hand

This helps a player later on in the game when the competition gets close. That is why the best way to start a game is to be focused and in the know of all rules.

Set your sights on making pure sequences first

A pure sequence is one that contains three or more cards of the same suit in a row. Do note that this sequence should not be created with a Joker as that would count as an impure sequence. However, there is an exception most don’t know about. The Joker can be used to create a series if used with its corresponding value. 

Getting a pure sequence first will help a player get ahead in the game while also getting an idea about it's opponent's hand and the game they’re playing.

Get rid of cards with high points early

Cards like an ace, king, queen and jack are highly-valued cards in the game but only if used wisely. Keeping these cards stashed away in the waiting and not making a set out of them early, only increases the chance of losing at the game with more points. Hence, it’s best practice to make a sequence from high-value cards early in the game or discard them.

Try to collect middle cards

Middle cards are very undervalued in online rummy. However, these are the cards that can increase a player’s chance of creating a hand. So if a player manages to get hold of a 6, it can be combined with 4 and 5, 5 and 7, or 7 and 8.

Use the Joker card intelligently

A player should be aware of the significance of a Joker card in online rummy. This is a wildcard that can turn the tables in your favour if used smartly. Having said that, a player should know the sets that can be made with the Joker card and then work towards making the series to yield maximum points.

Be mindful of getting fished

Fishing is a technique that experience rummy players use to lure out the card they most need from an opponent player to complete their set. A player needs to be mindful about which cards they are picking up from the deck or from the discarded lot. It gives the opponent an idea of the set of cards you are after.

Instead, once a player settles down in the game, they can use the same trick to get hold of the cards they need to complete their series.

Know when to quit the game 

A good rummy player knows when to fold their cards. Dropping out of the game without picking up a card will only cost you 20 points as opposed to leaving after picking up a card which takes 40 points.
