Canon Unveils the PowerShot G7 X III and G5 X Mark II
Canon has announced two new PowerShot G-Series point-and-shoot cameras, the G7 X III and G5 X Mark II. The cameras are successors to the PowerShot G7 X II and PowerShot G5 X, respectively.
Both cameras feature 20-megapixel 1-inch stacked CMOS sensors backed by DIGIC 8 image processors. They can shoot at up to 20fps with a maximum ISO of 12,800.
For video recording, both cameras can capture 4K/30p, 1080/60p (and 120p), HDR, and high frame rate movie with no crop. Both cameras have 180-degree tilting screens that are designed for selfies.
Other shared features include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, pop-up flashes, and USB-C charging via a power supply.
Canon PowerShot G7 X III
The G7 X III is designed to be “the next-generation vlogging camera,” Canon says. The wireless connectivity allows it to be used for live-streaming to YouTube.
On the front of the camera is a 4.2x optical lens (24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 in 35mm terms) with optical image stabilization.
On the back of the camera is a 3-inch touchscreen LCD with 180 degrees of tilting up for selfies and 45 degrees of tilting down.
Other features include clean HDMI out, 30fps RAW shooting with One Shot AF, a microphone jack, an improved user interface, and Creative Assist for photos and videos.
Canon G5 X Mark II
The G5 X Mark II features a new 2.36-million-dot, 0.39-inch pop-up OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF).
Autofocus is easier now with a new tough and drag AF system on the touchscreen LCD under the EVF.
On the front of the camera is a 5x optical lens (24-120mm f/1.8-2.8 in 35mm terms) with optical image stabilization.
Other features of the camera include panorama shot and star shooting.
Pricing and Availability
The PowerShot G7 X III and the PowerShot G5 X Mark II will be available starting in August 2019 with price tags of $750 and $900, respectively.
