Canon Unveils the RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS and RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS Lenses
Canon’s stable of RF full-frame mirrorless lenses just grew by two members. The company just announced the new RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS and RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS, two lenses that “further cement the company’s commitment to” its full-frame mirrorless system, Canon says.
RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM
The new RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM is Canon’s first f/2.8 wide zoom lens that packs image stabilization (IS). It features 5 stops of stabilization, edge-to-edge sharpness, a control ring, and drip and dust resistance.
The lens will be available starting in late September 2019 with a price tag of $2,299.
RF 24-70mm F2.8L IS USM
The new RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM is equivalent in size to the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II, except it features 5-stop image stabilization.
Other features and specs include focus breathing suppression during manual focusing, sensitivity setting during manual focusing, focus ring usage adjustments, and a customizable control ring (that can be assigned to aperture, shutter speed, ISO, or exposure compensation).
The lens will be available starting in late September 2019 with a price tag of $2,299.
A Free Firmware Update
Canon is also announcing a new firmware update coming to the Canon EOS R system in late September.
“The firmware update aims to add detection of the subject’s eye when the subject is at a distance, improve overall AF frame tracking for moving subjects, as well as improve initial subject recognition and start tracking when subjects are at a distance,” Canon says.
70-200mm f/2.8L IS is Incoming
“To complete the trinity of F2.8 lenses, the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens is scheduled to be shipping within the second half of 2019 – stay tuned!” Canon says.
