Piers Morgan Mocks the Chinese Language on Live TV
Piers Morgan has made headlines for the wrong reasons once again after he mimicked the Chinese language on a milk advertisement during a segment on Good Morning Britain.
The 54-year-old ITV presenter was discussing Megan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to leave the royal family, and if they would follow the son of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, Peter Phillips, who starred in the Chinese ad for milk, Metro reported.
Morgan then mocked the voiceover in the ad, saying, “I don’t know the Chinese for ‘I only drink…’ What’s it called? Ching chang cho jo.”
Susanna Reid was shocked when her co-host began making incoherent noises, telling Morgan, “You can’t say [that]… taking the mickey out of foreign languages is rather 1970s.”
Morgan argued that he can’t repeat what the ad was saying because he doesn’t speak any Chinese.
He was apparently imitating the Chinese brand’s name, which is Guangming Dairy, according to ITV.
“Are people going to be more annoyed about me trying to mimic the Chinese State milk ad, than they are about a member of the Royal family trying to flog Chinese State milk?” Morgan argued.
Reid responded: “Yes, Piers, do you not realize the kind of woke times we’re living in?”
John Barnes, a former Liverpool and England footballer, was one of the first to criticize Morgan on Twitter:
Just saw @piersmorgan on GMB mocking Chinese people on the way they speak, what are the odds he faces no criticism for it… there’s an example for Laurence Fox of white privilege

To which Morgan replied:
I was mocking a member of the British royal family appearing in an advert for Chinese state milk, not Chinese people. https://t.co/IO5TEXUYmf

Viewers took offense with the host’s mockery of the Chinese ad, with some accusing him of racism:
Racist @piersmorgan taking the piss out of the Chinese language now live on national TV. Release an apology live on air before the programme finishes @itv @GMB

@GMB why are you allowing @piersmorgan to be racist and mock the Chinese language. A disgrace!!! @Ofcom need to investigate this and heavily fine both him, the show and the network for condoning this crass, racist and inflammatory action by their ‘presenter’ #removepiers

Others came to Morgan’s defense:
Looking for offence when absolutely none was there. Sad times.

And there you go🙈🙈 John Barnes taking things out of context and misinterpreting 👏👏👏 There’s an example John of what Laurence and many others are saying

Let’s make it clear that mocking Chinese people on the way they speak is perfectly fine. I’m sure they’d be mocking the Geordies and Scousers. It’s all good fun.
