Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Daughter Shares Daniel Dae Kim Quote on Violence Against Asians
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice A. King, is showing her support against the rising violence on Asian Americans over the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
In her Twitter post on March 20, the 56-year-old American minister, the youngest child of the iconic civil rights leader, and CEO of The King Center shared a quote from Korean American actor Daniel Dae Kim, who recently tested positive for COVID-19.
“Please, please stop the prejudice and senseless violence against Asian people. Randomly beating elderly, sometimes homeless Asian Americans is cowardly, heartbreaking and it’s inexcusable.”https://t.co/cO1zlbrVFV

“Please, please stop the prejudice and senseless violence against Asian people. Randomly beating elderly, sometimes homeless Asian Americans is cowardly, heartbreaking and it’s inexcusable,” the quote reads.
King was also one of the many who stood up against the use of the phrases “Kung Flu” and “China Virus.”
Racism is petty. It seeks to cultivate bigotry and prejudice and exert power even in times when human beings most need each other.
“Kung-Flu”
“China Virus”This rhetoric isn’t harmless, especially with hate crimes against our Asian global family members already on the rise. https://t.co/eYzsWXRI5h

King’s tweet comes at a contentious time when discrimination, harassment, xenophobia, racism and violence against Asians around the world surges in the panic and fear caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. King joins the growing number of voices of celebrities and politicians outside the Asian American community calling for senseless violence against the Asian community to end.
