The Oscars have repeatedly nominated and neglected numerous actors.
Glenn Close lost for the eighth time last year after being nominated for her role in "Hillbilly Elegy."
Here are 24 actors who have been nominated at least four times without winning.
Each year, deserving performances lose out in the Oscars' best acting categories. But there are a handful of great actors that the Academy has repeatedly nominated and neglected.
Last year, Glenn Close was nominated for the eighth time for her supporting role in Netflix's "Hillbilly Elegy." She lost again to "Minari" star Yuh-Jung Youn, tying with Peter O'Toole as the actor with the most acting Oscar nominations without a win (though O'Toole won an honorary Oscar).
Close was also the perceived frontrunner at the 2019 Oscars for her role in "The Wife" — until she lost to Olivia Colman.
This year, Will Smith and Jessica Chastain, neither of whom have ever won, are both nominated for the third time for their roles in "King Richard" and "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," respectively. They are both the perceived frontrunners heading into Oscars night on Sunday, but could they be facing another Close-Colman situation?
There are plenty of other actors who have been nominated more times than them and still haven't won the coveted statuette.
