See the Full Pink Moon in all its springtime glory
The moon has a message for us Earthlings: Spring has sprung.
April's full moon rose on the evening of April 16, 2022 in miraculous fashion. The lunar event came as people around the world celebrated springtime holidays Hanuman Jayanti for Hindus, Easter for Christians, Ramadan for Muslims, Bak Poya for Sri Lankan Buddhists, and Passover for Jews.
Why is April's full moon called the Full Pink Moon?
The Full Pink Moon is not actually pink, though it might appear so in some pictures. According to NASA, the Farmer's Almanac adopted a Native American naming system for full moons each month. The Pink Moon is named for the plant herb moss pink, which is an eastern U.S. native plant that blooms early in spring. Other names for the plant are creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox.
Photographers captured the spectacular moon from vantage points around the world.
