This Air-fried banana bread is super easy and pretty tasty
My ideal breakfast is a fried egg on a charred corn tortilla with hot sauce. I prefer something savory with a little heat. Sweet isn't usually my thing. So a banana bread recipe from TikTok wasn't really up my alley. It seemed like an easy breakfast but maybe not the breakfast for me.
After trying it, I have to admit it's a pretty great little recipe. Sure, it's uncomplicated and not really a banana bread recipe. It's more akin to banana toast. But the TikTok from user @sammymontgoms combines bread, peanut butter, and bananas into an easy little snack or breakfast. What could be bad, right? It's racked up some 4.6 million views, so people definitely like it. Here's what you need to know to make it for yourself.
Ingredients
-
Bread, however many slices you like
-
1 banana
-
peanut butter
-
maple syrup or honey
-
cinnamon
Directions
-
Spread the peanut butter on the bread, making sure to cover it end-to-end.
-
Slice the banana length-wise, so you have long, thing strips of banana.
-
Lay the banana strips across the peanut-butter-covered bread to, again, cover the entire slice.
-
Drizzle the honey or maple syrup over the bread.
-
Sprinkle cinnamon over the bread.
-
Spray your air fryer basket with nonstick spray.
-
After preheating, air fry at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from the air fryer and enjoy!
The details
I mean...let's be real...you get what to do here. You put peanut butter on bread. Then you put bananas on bread. You drizzle and sprinkle. You air fry and eat. Easy peasy. Here's how it looked for @sammymonygoms.
And here is how at looked when I made the recipe.
The verdict? I'll likely stick with my savory breakfast, but if you're into sweet meals, this is a great option. The high heat of the air fryer does a great job of caramelizing the bananas and honey, giving each bite a charred, sticky quality. It's reminiscent of bananas foster.
The end product is not overly sweet either, like many other TikTok recipes. It avoids the cloying pratfalls like this bagel recipe with cream cheese, sugar, and honey, for instance. There's some balance to it. And it's pretty hearty with the bread and peanut butter.
I think it's a great option if you want something sweet that you can take on the go. And it takes just more than five minutes to make. In conclusion: It's not really banana bread. But it couldn't be easier to make, and it tastes pretty dang good. I'll take it.
