People are starting to place bets on Reddit's civil war

As the blackout protests on Reddit continue, the battle is starting to attract attention from spectators who are betting on how it might play out.
Hundreds of people are putting money on whether the company will back-track on its new API pricing policy or oust its CEO Steve Huffman, BetUS told Insider.
The online betting company said there was "very close heat" over whether Reddit will reverse its new pricing policy.
"So far, the betting public seems very much "at odds" and are undecided on this one so far," it said.
Almost all bets have been on Huffman still being CEO by December 31, BetUS added.
Others are also betting on whether the third-party app Apollo will shut down at the end of the month.
Apollo developer Christian Selig said last week it would close on June 30 after Reddit made changes to access its Application Programming Interface (API), which includes making third-party apps pay $0.24 for every 1,000 requests to its API from July 1.
Reddit moderators responded to the price increases by staging a blackout protest, making subreddits private from Monday. It was supposed to last 48 hours, but close to 5,000 subreddits were still dark as of Friday, per the Financial Times.
Reddit didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside of normal working hours.
