Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal join forces in foreboding 'Foe' trailer
What do you get when you pair two of film's brightest young actors? Foe, starring the powerhouse duo of Academy Award nominees Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) and Paul Mescal (Aftersun).
Based on the book by Iain Reid, Foe transports us to an apocalyptic future devastated by climate change. There, we meet married couple Hen (Ronan) and Junior (Mescal), who live on a rural farm that's been in Junior's family for generations. But when a stranger called Terrance (Aaron Pierre) shows up uninvited on their doorstep, their lives take a turn into chaos.
Terrance bears shocking news: Junior has been selected to live on a space station, a mission that may help save mankind. Hen will remain on Earth. But Terrance assures Junior she will have company in the form of a robot modeled after Junior. (Thinks Black Mirror's "Beyond the Sea" episode.)
As Hen and Junior ponder their options, and as Terrance begins to delve deeper into the specifics of their relationship, director Garth Davis (Lion) shifts genres from twisty psychological thriller to marital drama to apocalyptic science fiction, all anchored by three captivating performances.
