The best Prime Day TV deals: 65-inches and larger
We think 65 inches is the sweet spot for most people who want a big-screen display that can still fit into most living rooms. But if you have the space, larger displays can deliver an even more immersive experience. We're seeing huge discounts on many top displays in this range, including the stunning Samsung S95C OLED for 45% off and a massive Hisense 100-inch QLED TV for nearly $3,000 off.
The best Prime Day TV discounts: 55-inches and smaller
TVs that are 55 inches and under are great fits for more compact spaces and secondary rooms, like a bedroom. You can find several great models on sale for Prime Day, including a 55-inch Samsung Frame TV for under $1,000. Budget shoppers should also check out the 50-inch Hisense U6HF QLED, which delivers fantastic performance for under $300.
What are the top TV brands?
Our tech experts have reviewed many TVs across brands to select the top models for different needs and budgets. On the high end, we recommend premium QLED and OLED models from brands like Samsung, LG, and Sony. But if you're on a tighter budget, we suggest considering a midrange QLED from TCL, Hisense, Vizio, or Roku to get the best value for your dollar. And if you're just after a cheap smart TV and don't care about advanced image quality, you can't go wrong with basic LED options from TCL, Amazon, Toshiba, and Insignia.
Many of the best Prime Day TV deals we've highlighted above include discounts on display models we've selected as picks in our various buying guides. For more details on our top recommendations, check out our TV guides:
Should I buy an LED, QLED, or OLED TV?
When shopping for a new TV you'll need to decide between three main display types: OLED, QLED, and LED.
LED TVs are the cheapest and use LCD (liquid crystal display) panels with LED (light-emitting diode) backlights. These types of displays are fine for casual viewing, but they can't offer the color, contrast, or brightness performance that you can get on pricier TVs. Most notably, LED TVs typically have poor black levels, which causes dark scenes to look washed out and flat, especially when watching TV with the lights off.
Meanwhile, QLED TVs can be thought of as an upgraded version of an LED TV. These models also use LCD panels with LED backlights, but they add a filter of quantum dots, which is where the "Q" comes from in QLED. Quantum dots enable a wider and brighter range of colors. Some QLED TVs also incorporate a technology called local dimming, which lets the display brighten and darken specific areas of its screen to achieve better contrast control and deeper black levels.
Finally, there are OLED TVs, which use an entirely different kind of panel technology that has some big perks over LCD. OLED, which stands for organic light-emitting diode, is an emissive display type, which means that each pixel creates its own light. As a result, OLED TVs don't use backlights at all. Instead, they deliver an infinite contrast ratio with perfect black levels and wide viewing angles. This gives OLEDs a big advantage in overall image quality, especially if you like to watch movies in a dark home theater setting.
On the downside, even the most advanced OLEDs can't get quite as bright as high-end QLED TVs. They also tend to cost much more than QLEDs, especially if you're shopping for a large screen size. Check out our full QLED vs. OLED comparison for more details.
