Indonesia’s President is Asking Billionaire Jack Ma For Financial Advice

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has asked Chinese billionaire Jack Ma to be his economic adviser for the G20 summit scheduled on September 4-5 in Hangzhou, China.

The Indonesian president reportedly extended his invitation to the Alibaba Group founder during his visit to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on Friday, according to China Daily.

Widodo expressed that he wished to increase cooperation between small and medium enterprises in Indonesia and Alibaba. He also seeks assistance in enabling the 56 SMEs to penetrate the Chinese and global market.

Ma, who responded positively to the invitation, has stated that the Indonesian government’s vision of the SMEs and support for its undertakings are consistent with Alibaba’s. He joined Widodo and his wife during their visit to Alibaba Xixi headquarters.

Ma has expressed that his company’s business model is a good match for the Indonesian market with its population and huge number of SMEs providing great potential in the e-commerce industry. He is also confident that Indonesian companies can greatly benefit from what Alibaba has to offer.

Jack Ma, the chairman of the B20’s SME development task force, is set to propose setting up an electronic world trade platform (eWTP) at the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit to help private enterprises increase their global trade.
