Your tweets are now officially getting longer
Just as expected, Twitter announced today that it's tweaking its character count rules in tweets, meaning you now more have much more elbow room to express yourself on the service.
The microblogging site (do people still call it that?) will no longer count @names in replies and media attachments against the 140-character limit. You can now upload photos, GIFs, videos and polls without those docking your character count.
The @names change is particularly exciting because it means you can now reply to multiple people and not be left with a handful of characters to work with. It should help foster more meaningful conversations on Twitter since users can actually formulate a coherent sentence when talking to multiple persons.
Twitter isn't rolling out the changes right away. Instead, users will see them over the coming months, with developers getting a chance to adjust to the new rules for their products.
