How to Feature a Video on a Facebook Page (Tutorial)
This post is newly updated to reflect the recent changes Facebook made to their Pages design.
Facebook is aggressively challenging YouTube’s dominance by encouraging page admins to upload videos directly to Facebook rather than sharing links to YouTube videos.
In its beef-up of video functions, Facebook added three key features:
- Facebook auto-plays uploaded videos in the news feed (here’s how to turn off the auto-play feature).
- Facebook’s native video preview image is larger than YouTube previews.
- For advertisers, Facebook offers video ads, and for select advertisers, Premium Video Ads, 15-second commercials that auto-play without sound.
Featured Videos
With the recent design overhaul of Facebook Pages, the “Featured Video” section has moved. This section allows Page admins to showcase a video in the righthand sidebar of the page.
Step 1:
In the lefthand sidebar of your page, locate and click the “Videos” tab (your list of tabs will look different than mine, depending on which apps you have installed on your Page).
The Featured Video area will open. Mine looks like this:
Step 2 (for admins who have NOT uploaded a video to a page):
Click “Add Video.”
Locate the video you wish to upload from your device or hard drive. Note that you cannot insert a link to a YouTube, Vimeo or other third-party video; you must upload the video file.
Add a title, description and place for your video and click “Post.”

Step 3:
If you’ve already uploaded videos to your Facebook page, they will display in the “All Videos” section.
In the “Featured Video” section at the top, click the pencil icon and select “Add Featured Video” (if you’ve never featured a video before), or “Change Featured Video,” if you’d like to feature a different video than the one that is currently featurd.
You can also choose to NOT show any featured video.
Your Featured Video will display in the righthand sidebar, at the top of your “About” section.
Make Videos More Visible
I find it ironic that Facebook promotes video so intensely, yet buries the “Videos” section in the righthand sidebar, near the bottom of the page, where people are unlikely to find it.
You can make the “Videos” section a bit more noticeable by dragging the tab higher in the list.
To do this, find the “Videos” section in the righthand sidebar, and click the pencil icon and select “Manage Sections.” Drag and drop “Videos” as close to the top as you can get it, like I did here (be sure to Save changes):
You can reorganize the tabs listed in the lefthand sidebar the same way. Scroll down to the end of your list of tabs and select “Manage Tabs.”
Drag-and-drop the “Videos” tab wherever you want it, and Save.
Add and Edit Playlists
If you have uploaded multiple videos to your page, you can create topical playlists, just like on YouTube.
Access the Playlists area by clicking “Videos” in the lefthand sidebar. Then click the pencil icon to add a new Playlist or to reorder existing Playlists.
Once you’ve created a Playlist, you can change the order in which they display in the Playlist, add new videos to the Playlist, or Delete the Playlist.
