'I can't wait to hold my fiancee's hand.' said former marine and decorated veteran John Peck after his arm transplant surgery. He lost all four of his limbs after stepping on an improvised explosive device (IED) in 2010.

#2 The Surgery

12 months after his surgery, doctors informed him they'd found an arm donor. 'As soon as Dr Talbot called me, I knew, and I just broke down. I was crying because I was happy. But then my mind switched and it became... I mean, somebody died. I just want [the donor family] to know that this gift, it's not going to go to waste at all.

#3 14 Hours Later

It took 12 surgeons and 14 hours to perform the special surgery at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital. Doctors were confident they could successfully perform the surgery...and they did!

#4 New Start

John is obviously extremely excited, and ready to get a new start in his life. 'I wanted to move forward with my life,' he said. 'It's kind of been on a time-out right now.' John currently travels the country motivating people with his story, and is happy he can now train to become a chef.
