4 Hacks to Boost Your Twitter Traffic

Post by Adi Englander

adi-englanderTwitter is one of the most established social networks with over 328 million active monthly users. If you use the right strategies, you should be able to drive a fraction of these users back to your websites which can result in a huge amount of traffic.

Are you using Twitter to market yourself? Would you like some hacks to boost your Twitter traffic?

Hence, today I am going to share some simple Twitter traffic driving hacks that can be integrated into your social media strategy…

#1 Add an extra link in your bio:

You probably already know that you can add a link to your Twitter account that is displayed among your other account details. But did you know that you can add one to your bio too. Adding this extra link will drive more traffic to your site as it will appear higher in the bio.

sam-ovens-twitter

An example can be seen in Sam Ovens’ Twitter account. The link in the bio appears appears before the normal link. It also stands out from the other text in the bio as it is blue in color.

For best results make sure this link leads to a landing page that converts.

sam-ovens-homepage

Sam Ovens’ link goes to a home page, but it is optimized for conversions with an opt-in box at the top. This is very effective as well. You could try doing something similar to this.

If you want to track the clicks on this bio URL or if you have a really long URL and want to cut down on characters, you can use Bit.ly. If you track your URL you can try out various experiments like changing the position of the URL and adding a call to action to see if it increases clicks.

#2 Pin your most important tweets:

If you want one of your tweets to get more attention than the rest, you can pin it. When you pin a tweet it will become the first tweet all visitors to your Twitter account see as it will be placed right at the top.

If the tweet has a link to your website, it will naturally drive a lot of traffic.

ted-rubin

You can see a pinned tweet in action on Ted Rubin’s Twitter account. As you can see in the above screenshot, it contains a link that leads to his blog. This will drive traffic. The fact that the tweet has been retweeted 406 times and liked 768 times can also add social proof and drive even more traffic. So go through your account and find a popular tweet with lots of retweets and favourites that contains a link to your website or blog and pin it to the top.

You can easily pin any tweet by clicking on the ‘V’ sign that is located on the top right side of a tweet and then clicking on ‘Pin to your profile page’.

You can always unpin this tweet later by clicking on the ‘V’ sign on the pinned tweet again and clicking on ‘Unpin from profile page’.

#3 Use Twitter Applets:

If you already have a robust presence on other social networks, you should be using IFTTT’s Twitter Applets to drive traffic to your website from these social networks too.

IFTTT is an automation tool that lets you automate tasks through the use of Applets. You can use their Twitter Applets to post what you tweet on Twitter onto other social networks as well.

tweets-to-fb

For example, this applet automatically posts your tweets on Facebook when you use a specific hashtag. This way you have access to several Applets that automatically post to other networks like Linkedin, Tumblr and Pinterest.

If you take advantage of this you will be able to drive more traffic every time you tweet a link to your website from Twitter itself. You don’t have to post separately to each and every social network. This can save you a lot of time.

#4 Use images:

Another simple hack that will get you more traffic, is adding images to your Tweets.

buffer-stats

A study by Buffer found that images with tweets get 18% more clicks. They also get 89% more favourites and 150% more retweets.

This is why the next time you want a tweet to drive back more traffic to your website, attach an image to it. This could be just a simple stock photo or a sophisticated infographic or you could create a unique image using an online image editor. Many of them even let you directly share to Twitter. It should only take you a few minutes.

These are all the hacks you can use to drive more traffic with twitter. They range from simple things that take only a few seconds like making changes to your bio to pinning important tweets to slightly more time consuming techniques like attaching unique images to your tweets. But they are all worth it as they will drive more traffic to your website.
