English Man Marries Chinese Bride in Traditional Wedding Ceremony in China
A man from London, identified only as Edward, tied the knot with his Chinese bride, surnamed Liao, in an extravagant wedding ceremony in a small but scenic town in Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province.
The traditional ceremony took place inside a fancy, historic Qing-era residence complete with sedan chairs, street music, and a plethora of red decor and garments.
The groom’s family also flew from the U.K. to attend the wedding.
Like many similar stories, foreigners who get married in traditional Chinese weddings often go viral on social media.
Back in 2015, one French man’s grand Chinese ceremony attracted hundreds of guests and spectators on the streets of Shandong.
One bride earlier this week, however, wasn’t so lucky after the groom, identified as Wang, was arrested after paying 200 actors to be guests at his own wedding ceremony in Shaanxi Province.
He said the reason he hired actors to pretend to be his family and friends was because his relatives disapproved of his marriage to his fiancee, surnamed Liu, who was not from their town.
Netizens believed the groom was embarrassed to invite his loved ones, with some claiming that the bride’s family was against the marriage because he was poor.
