Ford just fired its CEO and promoted its self-driving car head
Ford just made a big move to embrace the future of self-driving cars.
The auto giant appointed the head of its self-driving car division as CEO, highlighting the growing urgency among car manufacturers to prepare for a very different future.
The new CEO, Jim Hackett, previously led Ford Smart Mobility, a subsidiary that had been focused on mobile connectivity and autonomous vehicles. Before that, he had been CEO of furniture and office space company Steelcase.
Hackett succeeds Mark Fields, who had been CEO of Ford since July 2014. Fields has been credited with leading the company through the recession. Ford also posted its most profitable year ever in 2016. Read more...
