Farmer plants 1000s of oak trees to honor late wife. 17 years later, hot air balloon finds hidden secret
Janet was Winston’s beloved wife and for 33 years, he had the pleasure of waking every morning to her and enjoying every moment of her company. However, when Janet passed away in 1995, Winston had to learn how to live without his partner and best friend. Heart failure may have taken her away from him but she would always have a piece of his heart. He then decided that he would honor his late wife by planting a few thousand oak trees. Every week, he planted an oak sapling with his son’s help.. Once the project was completed, they placed a seat in the field that that overlooked the hill closest to Janet’s home. “I thought it was a great idea – it was a flash of inspiration – and I planted several thousand oak trees. Once it was completed we put a seat in the field, overlooking the hill near where she used to live,” he explained. Remember all of those trees that Howes sought out after his wife died? 17 years later, they have grown into a beautiful tribute which had been a secret for years… until a hot air balloon flew overhead and saw what Howes had done. It turns out, Howes arranged oak trees in a very special alignment. He left a hole in the middle of the formation in the shape of a heart and he placed his seat in this area so that he could remember his lost wife and mourn. This memory of a life of love was created in the countryside of Gloucestershire, England. The heart is hidden from the roads by the trees and a surrounding hedge and that gives Howes the sanctuary he desires. “I sometimes go down there, just to sit and think about things. It is a lovely and lasting tribute to her which will be here for years,” he said. The balloonist who discovered this hidden heart, Andy Collett, told the Daily Mail that “this was the most amazing sight I have ever seen from the sky. You can just imagine the love story.” Please SHARE this heartwarming story with your friends and family!
