The Sonic fan scene is filled with all sorts of weird shit. Just plug "Sonic fan art" into an image search (or check out this subreddit) and see for yourself.
One such madcap expression of fandom involves plugging "& Knuckles" in at the end of... well... pretty much anything. It's an in-joke that extends all the way back to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which was released as an oddball, cartridge-based expansion pack in 1994.
Since that time, fans have taken to adding "& Knuckles" to pretty much anything that has a name.
Sega's latest Sonic game, Sonic Mania, takes fan service to the next level in many ways. But one of the best of those ways is an unlockable "& Knuckles" mode, in which you play the game as Knuckles... & Knuckles follows you around. Read more...
