Robbers Arrested After Targeting Asians Coming Out of Banks in Houston

Two men accused of “bank jugging” in Houston were arrested by the authorities after they followed a Middle Eastern man from a bank to the nearby business district on Richmond.

Jamarcus Wilson and Ricky Harrell, both 21, were caught by Houston police last Wednesday, Click 2 Houston reported. According to the police, the duo’s targets were people from Middle Eastern, South Asian, Vietnamese and Chinese local communities.

Jugging — or jugger, a person committing the crime — is a term coined to describe a robber specifically targeting people who just got out of the bank.

They watch them, surveillance them and when they leave the bank they follow them to their business location, their apartment complex to rob them for their money,” Houston Police Department Captain Yasar Bashir said.

Wilson was arrested in a separate bank-jugging case in May, and his twin brother was nabbed for a similar crime back in April, while their older brother is now serving a jail sentence for jugging.

Harrell was also on bond for possession of a controlled substance.

According to the report, the two suspects have been charged with engaging in organized crime and burglary of a motor vehicle. Authorities believe Wilson and Harrell are part of a criminal organization responsible for several reported crimes not just in the area, but also throughout the state of Texas.

A number of cases have been reported in the state in the past few months. In June, a mother was left in shock after being victimized by a bank jugger in the 4100 block of Cook Road, near Alief Clodine Road.
