Walmart is offering a surprising perk for customers buying the new Google Home devices (WMT, GOOGL)
As the saying goes, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." And, Walmart and Google have quite the friendship going as they work together to take on Amazon.
October 4 was Google's hardware event, where it unveiled a new phone, earbuds, and a few new Google Home devices. But that's not all that has changed recently.
Walmart, the world's largest retailer, recently debuted on the Google Express platform. The partnership, which was announced back in August, allows customers to place Walmart orders at Express.google.com, on the Google Express app, or through Google Assistant-enabled devices like Google Home.
To celebrate the launch of both the Google Home Mini and Walmart on Google Express, Walmart is offering a $25 coupon on any order that was placed on Google Express and that includes the new Google Home Mini or Google Home.
The device must be purchased at a Walmart store, on Walmart.com, or through Walmart's store on Google Express. The coupon is good for any Walmart order through Google Express. Full terms are on Walmart's website.
Walmart is now the largest vendor on the Google Home platform, which also includes retailers like Target, Costco, and Stop & Shop.
Customers can link their Walmart and Google accounts, allowing for integrated features like a shortcut to reorder items frequently bought from Walmart through the Google Assistant voice software. This goes deeper than any other vendor agreement on Google Express.
Google also recently removed its $95-a-year membership fee for Google Express, which previously gave customers free two-day shipping from retailers on the platform. Now, each vendor will have its own threshold for free shipping. This policy mirrors Walmart.com, which offers free two-day shipping on orders of at least $35.
