North Korean Cheerleaders Are Kim Jong Un’s Sex Slaves, Defectors Claim

North Korea’s cheerleaders, who made waves online for their attention-grabbing cheers, enthusiastic chants and synchronized moves at the Pyeongchang Winter Games, are allegedly sex slaves at home, defectors claimed.

The all-female 229-strong contingent has often been touted as North Korea’s “charm offensive” aimed to dissuade the international community’s worries over its nuclear plans. However, defectors revealed that Kim Jong Un’s so-called “Army of Beauties” have a more grim role at home, where they are forced to have sex with the supreme leader’s top aides.

In a Bloomberg interview, two defectors revealed how the women are forced into sexual slavery, providing sexual services to the distinguished members of the country’s communist political party, the Workers’ Party of Korea.

Kim Hyung-soo, a 54-year-old defector who escaped to South Korea with his athlete son in 2009, refers to North Korean athletes as Kim Jong Un’s sports “slaves”:

“In one word, athletes are Kim Jong Un’s sports ‘slaves.’ Even the coaches are slaves to Kim Jong Un, and to the North Korean regime. Because in North Korea, Kim Jong Un and the regime is the entire world. The athletes and the cheerleaders, too. They are all Kim Jong Un and North Korea’s slaves. The cheerleaders, too. They select people who are unlikely to defect, and people with loyal backgrounds. This factor is crucial from a very early stage.”

Another defector who spoke to Bloomberg was 42-year-old Lee So-yeon, a former military musician who fled in 2008.

“North Korea’s art troupe came here and performed with dances and songs, and it might seem like a fancy show on the outside. However, they also have to go to parties and provide sexual services, that sort of pain also follows. They go to the central Politburo party’s events and have to sleep with the people there, even if they don’t want it. Those sorts of human-rights infringements take place, where women have to follow what they are told to do with their bodies,” she said.

While the revelations shared were based on incidents from several years ago, it is highly unlikely that much has changed since then.

Mi-Hyang, a former member of the “pleasure squad” trained to “service” a small military circle of North Korea’s elite, detailed in an interview with Marie Claire how she was taken from her classroom and forced to train at age 15.

In 2015, a North Korean defector named Jang Jin-Sung revealed in his memoir “Dear Leader: Poet, Spy, Escapee – A Look Inside North Korea,” the existence of the “Section Five” girls, a group of the most attractive North Korean girls who are tasked to exclusively service Kim Jong Un.
