'Sesame Street' writer thinks of Bert and Ernie as a 'loving couple'

UPDATE: Sept. 18, 2018, 2:55 p.m. EDT Sesame Workshop has since released a statement denying that Bert and Ernie have any sexual orientation at all on the grounds that they are puppets.

UPDATE: Sept. 18, 2018, 5:12 p.m. PDT Frank Oz, one of the original Muppeteers also disputed Saltzman's view on Bert and Ernie's relationship.

It seems Mr. Mark Saltzman was asked if Bert & Ernie are gay. It's fine that he feels they are. They're not, of course. But why that question? Does it really matter? Why the need to define people as only gay? There's much more to a human being than just straightness or gayness.
