Photos of a Massive 1000-Foot Spider Web Blanketing a Greek Town

Greek photographer Alexandros Maragos recently captured an unusual phenomenon in the town of Aitoliko: a 1,000-foot-long (~300m) spider web that blanketed a vast area of the landscape.

The web was reportedly spun by thousands of Tetragnatha spiders for mating and to trap the growing mosquito population.

“As they built their web, they kept covering up large parts of the beach, trees, bushes, and even animals,” Maragos tells PetaPixel.
