Netflix Announces Live-Action Adaptation of Anime ‘Cowboy Bebop’

Netflix has officially announced a live-action adaptation of the hit 90s Japanese anime “Cowboy Bebop.”

The project, which will be adapted as a 10-episode series, has been in the works since last year, according to Variety. Netflix will co-produce the live-action “Cowboy Bebop” alongside Tomorrow Studios, with the former in charge of handling physical production.

“Cowboy Bebop” is described as the “jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine and Radical Ed: a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world for the right price.”

Shinichiro Watanabe, the director of the official anime, is set to serve as the consultant of the series, while Christopher Yost, who has previously written “Thor: The Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnarok,” will write the first episode and serve as executive producer, according to the report.

 

Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki from Sunrise, the studio of the original anime, will serve as executive producers alongside Tetsu Fujimura and Matthew Weinberg. Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg from Midnight Radio will also executive produce the live-action adaptation.

“Cowboy Bebop,” often considered one of the best anime of all time, only produced 26 episodes for its series that aired in Japan from 1998 to 1999, and later aired in the United States on Adult Swim, Deadline reported.
