Non-profit grassroots movement Kollaboration is celebrating what the Asian American community has to offer in the world of media and entertainment with its annual STAR Showcase.
The STAR Showcase, which will be held at Café Club Fais Do-Do in Los Angeles on Dec. 7, features six artists who were chosen through a nationwide series of talent competitions to vie for the National Kollaboration Champion title.
2019 Kollaboration STAR finalists include experimental pop artist from LA Jett Kwong, La folk-soul singer The Young Sun, Atlanta band Qing Mu, Atlanta beatboxer Charlie Shin, San Francisco rapper Chase Blue, and San Francisco singer Rachel Bergado.
Actor and producer Daniel Dae Kim, chief sustainability officer at Comcast Susan Jin Davis, and singer-songwriter Travis Atreo will serve as the guest judges for the showcase, according to Kollaboration’s social media accounts.
“It has been incredible to witness the rise of Asian Americans in diversity across entertainment,” says Chang. “We have learned that this work of creating lasting change is truly a collaborative effort and we are happy to celebrate our Asian American game changers from on stage and behind the scenes.”
The event will also feature performances by rock band Meg & Dia, Asian American improv troupe the Asian AF Superteam Voltron, and rapper Ruby Ibarra and choreographer Shaun Evaristo will give a collaborative performance.
Kollaboration will end the night with its first-ever wrap party, featuring live DJs from the Asian American community.
