Retired Hartford Connecticut, Peter Getz, first met Aponte in June 1998. The girl’s building was on fire, and Peter saved her life. A decade after saving her life, Peter attended Aponte’s graduation party. Peter was not even sure the little girl remembered her since the fire incident. Peter did not know he was about to change the girl’s life again. Peter was in constant communication with the girl’s family for some time before they lost touch. One day, more than a decade later, Peter found a message on aFacebook inbox that almost made him cry. Peter never forgot Aponte. The duo became friends, shared lunches, and talked about his family and her school work. A few weeks later, Peter got the chance to witness a great milestone in Aponte’s life.
