Oculus will no longer make its own virtual reality films

Oculus is shutting down Story Studio, its internal virtual reality film studio responsible for a number of renowned short films. More importantly, Story Studio was Oculus' effort to prove VR could be a compelling form of storytelling, not only a way to game.

"After careful consideration, we've decided to shift our focus away from internal content creation to support more external production," wrote Oculus' Jason Rubin in a blog post. "As part of that shift, we'll be winding down Story Studio."

Oculus, which is owned by Facebook, has decided to allocate resources towards third-party content creators in the narrative film space. Internally, Oculus will focus on the "exciting but unsolved problems in AR and VR hardware and software."

More to come...
