'Star Trek: Discovery' gets its first photo and there's not a white guy in sight, for once
We're months away from CBS's return to the final frontier, but the network revealed a first look at Star Trek: Discovery at the network's television upfront Wednesday.
The photo features Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou and The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham — a perfect illustration of the show's commitment to diversity.
Executive producer Bryan Fuller (who has since stepped down as showrunner to focus on other projects) emphasized that he wanted the new series to center around a woman of color as lead, and the show will also be the first Star Trek TV series to feature an openly gay character. Read more...
