Burger King expertly trolls McDonald's and its creepy clown mascot
Ronald McDonald has long been the creepy mascot of the mega fast food chain, and, well, it's a gimmick that's not aging very well.
The war on clowns has really taken off in recent years, and Burger King is using that to its advantage in a new ad, which portrays Ronald as a spooky clown just in time for Halloween.
In the spot, a teen on a bike is chased by a bunch of clowns, including one that's strikingly similar to Ronald. Eventually, the boy finds safety in a Burger King, where a clown tells him, "I want my Whopper."
"Come as a clown, eat like a king," the tagline reads.
The details at the end of the ad clear things up a bit: The first 500 guests wearing clown costumes in select cities after 7 p.m. on Halloween night will receive a free Whopper. The cities are limited to Boston, Los Angeles, Austin, and Salt Lake City, but the campaign is pretty great even if you're not in one of those lucky spots. Read more...
