Video: How the Sony a9 is Made

Photo Gear News recently visited the Sony factory in Chonburi, Thailand, where the highly-acclaimed Sony a9 mirrorless camera is being manufactured. This 6.5-minute video offers a behind-the-scenes look into the factory.

Richard Sibley of Photo Gear News explains that Chonburi was chosen by Sony as the site of the factory due to its close proximity to airports and seaports. Parts can easily be imported and finished cameras can quickly be exported.

4,000 staff at the factory assemble a wide range of Sony electronics. Silbey estimates that 30 to 40 workers are involved with the creation of each Sony a9 camera in the assembly line.

Watch the video above for an explanation of how the cameras are put together along with Sony-approved clips of those stages in the factory.

P.S. Here’s another video we shared in 2017 showing how the Sony a7R II is assembled in the same factory.
