Conservative TV Host Calls ‘Parasite’ Cast ‘The Destruction of America’ After Oscar Win
Conservative TV host Jon Miller has apparently backpedaled from his comments on Bong Joon-ho’s acceptance speech for winning Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.
Bong, who accepted the award for “Parasite” — along with co-writer Han Jin-won — delivered his speech in Korean.
Somehow, the idea of Bong speaking in his native tongue upset Miller. The BlazeTV host tweeted shortly after the director’s speech:
A man named Bong Joon Ho wins #Oscar for best original screenplay over ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and ‘1917.’ Acceptance speech was: ‘GREAT HONOR. THANK YOU.’ Then he proceeds to give the rest of his speech in Korean. These people are the destruction of America.
Less than an hour after his tweet, Miller posted a follow-up statement clarifying that “these people” did not refer to Koreans, rather to “those in Hollywood” who decided the winners. He believes those people only chose the Korean director to “show how woke they are.”
“‘These people’ are obviously not Koreans but those in Hollywood awarding a foreign film that stokes flames of class warfare over two films I thought were more deserving simply to show how woke they are. That should be clear from the rest of what I tweeted about tonight’s production.”
Miller’s comments have since drawn a massive backlash from both prominent personalities and the general public on Twitter. So far, people have accused him of ignorance, racism and xenophobia.
“What a dumb f***ing tool you are, your family is embarrassed. At gatherings they’re literally like ‘how’s Jon doing that little dumb f*ck tool’ and everyone goes ‘yeah we don’t care he’s a f*cking dumb sh*t’ — come say hi if you’re out tonight,” Chrissy Teigen wrote in a tweet that has now nearly 250,000 likes.

Others who condemned Miller’s comments include lawyers, journalists, creatives, athletes and entrepreneurs, to name a few.
Teigen’s husband, John Legend, also chimed in to ask, “Do they pay you for these dumb takes or is this something you do for fun?”

Several hours later, Miller posted an update showing a screenshot of Twitter’s response to a report anonymously submitted against him. According to the platform, it had “investigated the reported content and could not identify any violation of the Twitter Rules or German law” (suggesting that the report must have been submitted from Germany).
Miller wrote, “I’m glad Twitter — unlike Hollywood — still lets you disagree with #Oscars picks without being canceled!”

As of this writing, Miller’s original tweet has amassed a disproportionate 27,500 likes, 6,600 retweets and 45,200 comments.
Interestingly, this is the second time in just two weeks that Miller has found himself in a similar situation. Before the Oscars, the TV host complained about the Super Bowl’s halftime performance, which showcased Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
“Oh fantastic the halftime show is not even in English,” he tweeted.
