Son wants to go to a “Donuts with Dad” social event – Single mom dresses up as Dad and takes him
A hilarious moment when a single mother from Fort Worth, Texas, decided to dress up as a dad so that her 12-year-old son wouldn’t have to “miss out” on a Donuts With Dad social event at his school.
The mother, Yevetter Vasquez, said she was dropping off her son, Elijah, when she noticed “more cars in the parking lot than usual.” She then asked her son, “What’s going on? Is there some event that I’m supposed to be here for?” Elijah replies, “No, don’t worry. It’s just Donuts With Dad.” The mother replies, “How come you didn’t tell me?” She then jokingly says that she could have easily dressed up as a man for her son.
To her surprise, Elijah seemed to like the idea his mother dressing up as a man.
With only 10 minutes before school started, the mother had to act quickly. She thought about how excited her son was and couldn’t bear the thought of letting him down.
In less than 10 minutes, the mother drove back home, slapped on a fake mustache, slipped into a plaid button-down shirt, put on a baseball cap and then made it back to school.
“When we walked into the library, there were a whole bunch of men, and a lot of them were cheering,” Vasquez said. “Elijah was just smiling really big. It was a lot of fun, and of course, we got doughnuts.”
After having a blast at the donut event, Elijah asked his mother if she could share the funny photos on Facebook. Upon sharing the photos on social media, the photos have gone viral being shared over 16,000 times.
Speaking as a single parent Vasquez wrote in the photo captions,”I know seeing other dads with [their] kids isn’t easy for mine but [it’s] life… [A]t least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face.”
Some of us might say that the school shouldn’t have a specific “Donuts With Dad” day, but the school actually has another social event for mothers– “Muffins with Mom” day.
The amazing mother added that dressing up as a dad was meant to be “something silly and fun” to make her son smile.
