Teen spots lonely, sad homeless man, gives him the shoes he’s wearing to comfort him

Teenagers usually spend their Labor day weekend lounging by the pool or having a barbecue, but not LaRon Tunstill. The young teenager from Louisville made the most out of his holiday by contributing to the lives around his community.

Tunstill, 14-years-old, was volunteering amongst a community group (PURP ME) handing out food to the homeless until a particular man caught his attention. Laron approached the man, sat besides him and sparked up a little conversation. While the two were having their conversation, Tunstill couldn’t help but notice the man’s extremely worn shoe.

“We were just talking about his life. He didn’t have any friends. He didn’t have nobody,” said Laron. “He was just poor and stuff so you know I couldn’t just let him walk away like that.”

After listening to the man’s story, Laron couldn’t just walk away from him. The teen took of his shoes, brand new Nike sneakers, and gave them to the man. “He didn’t want to take the shoes at first but I told him take them because that’s what God wanted me to do,” said Tunstill. “His story made me cry so I just gave my shoes to him just to make him happy.”

The video showing the touching interaction was posted on social media and has since gone viral.

Upon reading about the story, the founder of PURP ME, Jason Reynolds, 30, says he’s very proud of Laron because he had watched the boy grow up. Reynold says Laron has come a long way because at one point the teen would always fight and do things he shouldn’t be doing.

“To see where he is today is a miracle,” Reynolds added. “It made me feel so proud to see the changes he has made in his life and see him helping another person.”
