WhatsApp is back up after worldwide outage [Update]
WhatsApp went down around the world today, rendering the one-billion-users-and-counting chat service unusable. It does, however, appear to be back online – brace yourself for all those incoming messages.
We here at TechRadar in San Francisco couldn't connect to WhatsApp when we tried around 3:15pm PT; our outgoing messages were stuck in limbo and we hadn't received a message in quite some time.
A company spokesperson told Reuters, "WhatsApp is aware of the outage issue and working to fix it," but offered no further details. There's no word about today's outage emanating from WhatsApp's Twitter account, which hasn't sent a tweet since August 2016, or its website.
The outage follows another big internet story on Wednesday: a massive Google Docs phishing attack spread around the web, attempting to trick users into granting access to their Gmail accounts.
Google shut down the attack quickly, though we recommend staying vigilant against suspicious emails.
