Huawei Mate 10 will be ‘even more powerful’ than the new iPhone

We expect the Huawei Mate 10 to launch before the end of the year, and now the firm’s CEO has given us some insight into what we can expect from its next phablet flagship.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Huawei CEO Richard Yu confirmed the Mate 10 name and went on to say that the phone will more powerful than the upcoming iPhone – which is due to be announced in September itself.

Yu went on to say that the Mate 10 will have a “much longer battery life with a full-screen display, quicker changing (we think this should read ‘charging’) speed, better photographing capability and many other features that will help us compete with Apple.”

No real surprise

While Yu’s comments may seem ballsy, the truth is most flagship Android phones are – on paper – more powerful than Apple’s top tier iPhones.

The Cupertino firm generally employs fewer chipset cores and less RAM in its phones, while many Android phones find themselves in somewhat of a spec war with each other in a bid to appeal to consumers.

The current top phone in Apple’s arsenal for example, the iPhone 7 Plus, has a 2.34GHz quad-core A10 chip and 3GB of RAM.

Meanwhile the Moto Z2 Force, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, HTC U11 and OnePlus 5 all have octa-core chipsets and a minimum of 4GB of RAM (with some rising up to 6GB and even 8GB).

It makes sense that Huawei will stuff a powerful chipset and a whole bunch of RAM into the Mate 10 then, and it’s almost certainly going to be more than what Apple squeezes into the iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus.

There's a chance Huawei will launch the Mate 10 at IFA 2017 in Berlin at the start of September, but last year it waited until November to take the covers off its predecessor, the Mate 9 - so we could still be a few months off seeing the phone.
