The internet can be an amazing place where people from many walks of life can interact out in the open, for all to witness.

Such was the case when Microsoft co-founder and international philanthropist Bill Gates welcomed Malala Yousafzai to Twitter on Friday with a tweet.

Yousafzai, a 19-year-old Pakistani activist who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, joined the social network earlier in the day in celebration of having graduated secondary school.

This isn't the first time the two have conversed. In 2015, Gates and Yousafzai met in New York and recorded an interview to promote a documentary about her life, He Named Me Malala.

Yousafzai has been advocating for education equality for girls and women since she was a child. She lived in a region where the Taliban banned girls from attending school and survived an assassination attempt relating to her activism in 2012.
