Bill Maher Has a Huge Problem With Racist Jokes Towards Asians

Bill Maher, host of the HBO series “Real Time” and a man known for calling a Japanese-American man a “chink”, is no stranger to dancing with racial slights against Asians.

His latest offense cam in the form of a tweet playing on the conflict with North Korea and the stereotype of Asian women who work at nail salons.

Of course, Twitter had a few replies for his poor taste in jokes:

Maher, who has been a host of the show since 2003, just recently caused controversy over the use of the n-word slur on his show in June, according to The Hollywood Reporter. HBO condemned Maher’s actions, saying:

“Bill Maher’s comment last night was completely inexcusable and tasteless. We are removing his deeply offensive comment from any subsequent airings of the show.”

Maher also apologized on his show, saying:

“I did a bad thing. For black folks, that word — I don’t care who you are — it’s caused pain. It doesn’t matter that it was not said in malice, it caused pain, and that’s why I apologized. I’m not that big of an asshole.”

In 2001, Maher, who then hosted a show on ABC, referred to Japanese-American activist Guy Aoki as “the head Chink in charge,” a slur that he never apologized for.

So this leaves some wondering: when will Asians get an apology from Maher?
