Thailand’s Largest Movie Theater Brand Now Accepts Cryptocurrency as Payment
Thailand’s largest movie theater chain will now accept bitcoin and other digital currencies as forms of payment to buy tickets or even snacks.
Major Cineplex, in partnership with Swiss fintech developer RapidzPay, will establish gateways for customers who prefer to use cryptocurrency as a mode of payment. The latter firm will provide corporate and personal payment solutions using decentralized blockchain platform, according to The Nation.

“With RapidzPOS and the RapidzPay mobile app, you’ll be able to buy any services and products from us, such as movie tickets, popcorn and other different products with cryptocurrency,” director of marketing at Major Cineplex Group, Chanya Tamrongweenichai,, said in a statement. “Also, we believe that RapidzPay will expand to our other businesses and lead the change for Thailand’s financial ecosystem to be cashless.”
Those who will choose to pay using cryptocurrency can send their payment to the RapidzPay digital wallet using a smartphone application. Major and RapidzPay will deploy Point-of-Sale (PoS) machines at its theaters that will accept both cryptocurrencies as well as fiat currencies.
“All I can say is that I’m really excited to help customers of Major Group and beyond to make their lives a little bit better and easier,” RapidzPay president and founder, Eddie Trent, said.

RapidzPay also plans to target millions of active user in Thailand for its first year of operation after it launches its online wallet app that enthusiasts can use to hold, trade, and even exchange cryptocurrencies as well as buy crypto using fiat, CCN reported.
The news of the partnership came nearly a month after Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released the details regarding the country’s cryptocurrency and initial coin offering (ICO).
