Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus specs listed in sketchy benchmark

The Samsung Galaxy S9 might be just months away and there’s a high chance the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will land alongside it, but so far we don’t know much about that larger phone. However, a new benchmark has provided some clues.

Posted on Geekbench, the benchmark is for a model listed as Samsung SM-G965F, which is believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, as it follows the naming conventions of the range.

And some of what the benchmark lists is unsurprising, as the phone apparently runs Android Oreo for example, and uses a ‘universal9810’ motherboard, which suggests the Exynos 9810 chipset – a chipset which Samsung’s recently announced and which we’re expecting to see in the Galaxy S9 range.

What’s slightly more surprising is the mention of just 4GB of RAM, given that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and a number of other handsets now have more than that, but that’s at least in line with an earlier rumor.

Not convincing

However, there are some major red flags, most notably the low single-core score of 1,191 and multi-core score of 3,835, both of which are well below even the Samsung Galaxy S8, which in our own tests achieved a single-core score of 2,008 and a multi-core score of 6,630.

Given that Geekbench can be fooled by modified handsets there’s a good chance that this has happened here, and that we’re not actually looking at Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus results at all.

But we expect to see plenty more rumors over the coming weeks and months, so we should soon have a clearer idea of what to expect from Samsung’s next flagships.
